The Madness of L.J. Smith

chris klinknerSenior Writer IOctober 16, 2008

People have said that L.J. Smith is being overly criticized for his play this year. I tend to disagree on that one. Anyone see his lackluster effort on Sunday's interception?!?

Smith was tagged a franchise player by the Eagles and such is being like a top-five tight end. Unfortunately a quick review of the stats and one sees that:
- Smith is tied for 27th among TEs in receptions
- Smith is 33rd among TEs in receiving yards

Not the kind of numbers you want and expect from a guy making $4.5 million. On the positive front, it appears that Reid is finally realizing his error in keeping Smith and has made attempts to try an upgrade the position with recent inquires into the availability of Tony Gonzalez and Kellen Winslow.

But inquires only get you Smith for another 10 games this year...Unfortunately!
