Bernard Hopkins Donovan McNabb: Boxer Calls out QB for Not Being Black Enough
Bernard Hopkins Decides to Bash Donovan McNabb
The ageless wonder, 46-year-old Bernard Hopkins was supposed to be promoting his upcoming May 21 light heavyweight fight against Jean Pascal this week in Philadelphia. But sounded like he was ready to go into the ring with former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, Donovan McNabb, instead.
"Forget this," Hopkins said, according to the Philadelphia Daily News, and pointed to his own skin. "He's got a suntan. That's all."
Hopkins, a Philadelphia Eagles fan, questioned McNabb's toughness and upbringing saying he lacked the competitive fire of Michael Vick and blamed McNabb's inability to communicate with Terrell Owens as the reason for their failed relationship 2006.
After more disappointing seasons McNabb was then traded to the Washington Redskins last season, a move that Hopkins claims made McNabb feel betrayed because he thought he was a valuable part of the squad—yet that wasn't the case.
"Why do you think McNabb felt he was betrayed? Because McNabb is the guy in the house, while everybody else is on the field. He's the one who got the extra coat. The extra servings. 'You're our boy,' " Hopkins said, according to the Daily News, and patted a member of the media on the back to illustrate his point. "He thought he was one of them."
It was a clear Uncle Tom reference for Hopkins and he's just sounding more bitter than ever for what could have been with the Eagles when McNabb and Owens formed a dynamic combination on offense.
Not sure what his motivation is for bringing this all up now. Clearly, he likes to a kick a man while he's down since McNabb has reportedly worn out his welcome in Washington after one season.
His opponent Pasqual should watch out. Hopkins, hits under the belt.
