NBA Playoffs 2011: Are the Dallas Mavericks a Lock for the NBA Finals?
NBA Playoffs 2011 Has Seen the Dallas Mavericks Make An Improbable Run to the Western Conference Finals
We knew the Dallas Mavericks were good, we just didn't know how good they were.
In fact, some people thought this Mavericks team, without Caron Butler, would struggle with the Portland Trail Blazers and lose the opening round series. Despite an epic collapse in one game, the Mavericks found a way to win and drew a matchup with the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Lakers.
Surely Dirk Nowitzki and Dallas were no match for a team that had been in the last three NBA Finals. Well, yet again, we were wrong, as the Mavericks embarrassed the defending champions, sweeping them out of the postseason in impressive fashion.
Now, Dallas is just four wins away from another appearance in the NBA Finals, and it's only a matter of time before they get them. The only team that can prevent the Mavericks from winning the West is the Oklahoma City Thunder, but even with all of their firepower with Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, I don't see who can stop Dirk Nowitzki on the inside.
Nowitzki is playing the best basketball of his life, and when he's in a zone like that, you just have to hope for the best in terms of his output. The Mavericks are deep, talented and have shown that they can beat the best teams in the league.
If I'm Memphis or Oklahoma City, I'm in no rush to face the Mavericks, because this is a team that's on a mission in this postseason.
