After playoff appearances from two of the Cardinals' division rivals (Cubs and Brewers), the Redbirds are certainly entitled to acquire new talent whether it comes via trade, free agency, or a mix of both. With Chris Carpenter still uncertain if he will play next season, the team should be looking for starting pitching. Also look for them to pick up a lefty for the bullpen, possibly a closer, and a middle infielder. Here are some players the Cards could potentially be interested in.

Pitching: According to Buster Olney of ESPN, the Padres are looking to trade Jake Peavy. Though Peavy has to approve the trade, he has said he would like to stay in the National League. The only team that has said they were interested was the Cardinals, who are also interested in a deal involving Khalil Greene. Also look for players like AJ Burnett, Jon Garland, Trevor Hoffman, and Brian Fuentes.

Infielders: Since Adam Kennedy wants out, the Cards will be looking for a middle infielder. Names like Orlando Hudson, Orlando Cabrera, Rafael Cabrera, and Edgar Renteria could be appealing to the Redbirds.
