Bayern Munich Transfer Rumors: Will German Giants Land City's Jerome Boateng?
Bayern Munich Transfer Rumors See Germans Close to Landing Manchester City's Jerome Boateng
It's still early, but that hasn't stopped Bayern Munich from being extremely active in the summer transfer market. The German giants already found their next goalkeeper, in Schalke's Manuel Neuer, and now it appears they're prepared to boost their defense.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Bayern is close to striking a deal for young Manchester City defender Jerome Boateng.
The German club has already agreed to terms with the 22-year-old defender himself, and the only stumbling block that remains is setting a transfer fee with the Eastland club. As of now, Munich have £8 million to play with in their efforts to sign the promising fullback, and given City's desire for at least one big name this summer, they could give them a discount from the £12 million they paid for him in the first place.
Boateng represents a noticeable upgrade for Munich's shaky defense, and shows that this team is committed to returning to dominance after a lackluster domestic showing. He's got plenty of potential, and should be a good player for them in the future.

In fact, this deal seems like it's as close to being done as it can be without actually being done yet. It makes sense for both teams; City has decided Boateng is expendable (if they hadn't they wouldn't be discussing transfers) while Munich could use a new defenseman to bolster what was an incredibly shaky unit last season.
They've got enough cash to play with to make the deal, and Boateng should prove to be quite the score for them. In the end, look for Boateng to be swapping kits once again this summer, after falling out of favor with City manager Roberto Mancini.
