NBA Playoffs 2011: Who Will Dallas Mavericks Face in the Next Round?
Dallas Mavericks Will Watch And Wait For Their Next Opponent In 2011 NBA Playoffs
While one Western Conference semifinal series ended quickly with today’s pummeling of the Lakers by Dallas, the other could easily go the distance. The Grizzlies-Thunder matchup features a pair of young, hungry teams with more talent than expectations.
Kevin Durant’s 2010 scoring title gave the Thunder their share of preseason buzz, but few expected them to be serious contenders for the title in what looked like a crowded West. The Grizzlies weren’t even expected to be a lock for the playoffs, let alone knock off the mighty Spurs.

Memphis is as hot as any team in the league, and holds both a 2-1 series lead and home court advantage. The latter is especially important in this series, with both teams playing a high-energy style that tends to feed off the energy of the home crowd.
Oklahoma City probably has the best two individual talents in the series in Durant and PG Russell Westbrook, but needs both of them to play at the top of their games if they want to escape with the win. The Thunder’s defense-oriented frontcourt of Serge Ibaka and Kendrick Perkins puts a lot of pressure on their perimeter guys to score points.
Looking at their respective regular seasons, you’d expect OKC to win this series handily, but it’s tough to bet against the team on a roll. Look for Memphis to ride its home-court edge to another upset win.
