Bill Buckner To Call Cubs – Red Sox Game

One of the classic interleague series this season is between the Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox. The series will take place the weekend of May 20th at Fenway Park.

On the first game of the series, former Chicago Cub and Boston Red Sox 1B Bill Buckner will be filling in Bob Brenly in the booth for WGN. Buckner spent years in a Cubs’ uniform and hit .300/.332/.429 with 81 HR’s and finished in the top-10 in NL MVP voting in 1981 and 1982.

Buckner also spent five seasons with the Red Sox and hit .279/.315/.410 with 48 HR’s. Of course Buckner’s most famous moment in a Boston uniform was Game 6 of the 1986 World Series when the ball went between his legs to allow the New York Mets to win the game.

It will be good to see Buckner return to Fenway once again. I am sure it will be announced that Buckner is in the house and will get a standing ovation like he did when he returned to Fenway to throw out the first pitch before the 2008 home opener.
