According to the PGATOUR.com website, the Player's Championship this year on May 12-15 in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL will feature country music star Darius Rucker in its ceremony to honor the U.S. military on Military Appreciation Day.
Most people know Darius Rucker from his Hootie and the Blowfish days, although many do not realize how closely he is associated with golf.
Recently, for example, when the Tour asked him to get involved with its charity campaign, he didn't hesitate.
In an agreement with record company Capitol Nashville, Rucker produced a song named after the tour’s campaign titled “Together, Anything’s Possible,” which can be downloaded from iTunes with all proceeds going to PGA Tour Charities.
According to Rucker, “When the PGA Tour called and asked me to do a song, that was a no-brainer for me. I was really honored that they would ask me to do it."
A lover of the game, Rucker says he mostly plays at home in South Carolina, with Bull’s Bay his primary course.
The Players Championship and Capitol Records Nashville announced that Rucker will help the tournament honor area military with a special musical appearance on Wednesday, May 11, during Military Appreciation Day at THE PLAYERS Championship.
Hats off to Darius, a guy who loves the game and is willing to jump in and support it every chance he gets.
