Bengals News: Marvin Lews Says Chad Johnson Will Stay
Cincinnati coach Marvin Lewis said the Bengals will not trade disgruntled receiver Chad Johnson, who has recently intimated that the team should trade him.
Lewis repeated what he said the last time Johnson made those comments: "As I said then, there will be no trade of Chad Johnson. Repeat it again."
Lewis said he can't control Johnson's attitude and he didn't care.
"That doesn't mean anything to me right now," the coach said. "He's a special player, and he's a Cincinnati Bengal for quite a while."
Johnson, who had a franchise-record 1,440 receiving yards this season, is signed through 2011.
Commentary: Just because Lewis says he's not going to trade Johnson doesn't mean Lewis is not going to trade Johnson. The coach might just be playing some gamesmanship, because if he lets it be known that the Bengals want to get rid of Johnson, then the receiver's trade value will plummet. This situation certainly bears watching this offseason.
Fantasy Football Impact: Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh are one of three or four receiver tandems that include two stars. If Johnson were to leave, Chris Henry probably would step in as the No. 2 WR behind Houshmandzadeh.
