The Miami Heat aren't far removed from an NBA Championship season, and not much has changed since then roster-wise.
So why are they so bad?
Maybe injuries are to blame.
Dwyane Wade hasn't exactly been healthy all season. But even when he is in, they are 7-23.
That includes a current 10 game losing streak when Wade actually does play. It seems that his 24 points per game aren't enough to save this struggling team.
Maybe an aging Shaq is the reason that the Heat aren't their former selves. While he may not be all he used to be, he's still a serviceable center in a league that has few dominant big men.
Maybe they have an unreasonably tough schedule.
But five of their last seven losses have come to teams that have a losing record. The only two teams with a winning record that lost to the Heat are the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Washington Wizards. They actually have only three wins against teams with winning records.
Maybe they just need to have a breakout offensive performance to win. But even when they score more than 100 points, they are just 4-8.
It seems that this is a team that will lose and keep losing, no matter what they do. And I, for one, don't see any way that they can turn it around.

This question transcends basketball, and actually transcends sports. If anyone has a cogent answer they should post for the good of mankind. Our survival may depend on it.

Is the line between winning and loosing so close, between survival and extinction so fragile? How can it be changed? Who will add to this post to address the greater issues?
