As UFC Rio begins to take shape, one Brazilian has not appeared on the main card yet: Antonio Rodrigo "Minotauro" Nogueira.
However, UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub has laid out the challenge to face Nogueira in Brazil.
"I'd love to fight in Brazil… There’re a Brazilian heavyweight who can be matched, who’s (Rodrigo) Nogueira, so maybe… But I’ll fight who they want me to fight”, he said to TATAME.com following his win over Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic at UFC 128.
It is a fight that Schaub has been requesting and he is optimistic about fighting Nogueira this summer.
"That’d be a tough one. He’s talented, he’s good on the ground, he’s a veteran, so it’s the same story, another monster, another legend,” Schaub said.
Schaub has racked up two wins over heavyweights, Mirko Cro Cop and Gabrel Gonzaga, both who are legends in the sport.
And if the American fighter is to be granted his wish by the UFC, he would be staring at a third consecutive legend across from him in Nogueira.
“Three legends. It might be some good,” Schaub said.
UFC Rio is scheduled to take place on Aug. 27, live from the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro. Headlining the event is UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva against Yushin Okami, plus a rematch between light heavyweights Forrest Griffin and Maurcio "Shogun" Rua.
