If you asked fans of Ring Of Honor who are some of the most important guys in the history of Ring Of Honor, I doubt the name Jimmy Rave would come up. People tend to forget that Rave was the top heel in ROH for years as the leader of the Embassy. He's also headlined ROH cards with the likes of CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, Nigel Mcguinness, Homicide, Austin Aries, and Roderick Strong.
Jimmy Rave was so hated that instead of throwing streamers the fans would throw toilet paper at him. But he was at his best when the Embassy disbanded and Rave was allowed to be himself: Cocky, Technical, and Vicious. His matches in 2007 with Nigel Mcguinness and Homicide were great, including the fight without honor against Nigel at the Fifth Year Festival Finale.
A ring psychologist and technician, Rave was the guy everyone knew would be a star. So when he was signed by TNA in 2007, people expected big things out of him. But soon after his signing, he was stuck with Lance Hoyt and Christy Hemme as the Rock N' Rave Infection: a horrible gimmick based on the Guitar Hero craze.
Instead of being himself, he's forced to cut crappy promos and wear ring gear that makes Boy George look straight. Now when people think Jimmy Rave, they think of this stupid gimmick and not the ROH legend. But, there is hope. He's now started to wrestle singles matches, so I'm expecting a well-deserved push. It's too bad the people won't see the Ring of Honor great, but the Guitar Hero dead-weight.
