In an unexpected move today, the Dallas Cowboys have made a blockbuster trade for Lions' star receiver Roy Williams.

In exchange for Williams, the Lions will receive a first, third, and sixth round draft picks in 2009. The Cowboys also received a seventh round pick from Detroit. The initial trade offer from the Lions involved Cowboys DE DeMarcus Ware, but the Cowboys did not hesitate shooting that trade down.

Well I am not sure what Detroit expects to do with the rest of their season. I look at this as a sign of surrender. Who can blame them though? So far this year they have not won a game, fired their GM Matt Millen, lost QB Jon Kitna for the year, and now this trade. Sorry Detroit fans, but we all know who you will draft with the Dallas first round pick. That's right a wide receiver!

On the other side, with Dallas QB Tony Romo out for at least three games, I am not sure if this will help much until he is back. Also with Brad Johnson now under center, look for T.O. to be the first to point the finger again. I do not believe this will be a pretty thing in the Big D. Terrell Owens can't be happy.

In 60 games with the Lions, Williams has 262 receptions, 3,884 yards receiving, and 29 TD's.

As a Bears' fan, though, I wish they had made a play for Williams, but why would they right? They are always happy with mediocre players.

  1. The Bears hate points! They win with defense or nothing. :)

    Nice write up.

  2. Not bad. Lions drafting a WR joke is pretty outdated though, especially since it was Millen's doing and he is gone. This trade is a major success for the Lions. Randy Moss was traded two years ago for a single, 4th round pick. Lions got TWO picks which are better than that, in addition to essentially improving upon their 7th round pick by receiving a 6th rounder.

On the other hand, the Cowboys now have way too many receivers to possibly keep happy, especially without a legit QB for a month. I see this trade helping Roy Williams in terms of fantasy output, but hurting the Cowboys in terms of chemistry. I could be wrong, but I could definitely see him and TO feuding at some point in the near future.

    Good article.

  3. TO is on his way out, mark my words. That's the only way this trade makes sense for the Boyz. For the Lions, however, it's a huge success and perhaps the first trade in my entire life that I feel will really improve the team.

    1. We will see how the trade works out. Got to see what they do with it. They need a QB, maybe another receiver, some defense. Also yeah TO is done. Whether or not Dallas had this planned to get him to leave doesn't matter because he can't take a back seat top Williams and he wont. Thanks for the read.
