It's a sad fact of fighting, some guys get abused inside the cage and get turned into human punching bags.
Well, at Bellator 41 last month, that's what happened to Wilson Reis.
A bout between Reis and Patricio Freire made the third round. Then Freire turned on the jets and pushed Reis up against the cage. From that point, Freire made it his job to tee off on Reis and threw numerous good strikes that you can see visibly hurt Reis.
Those accurate little strikes knocked Reis out and sent him to the mat and knocked him out in another way. This bout was part of the featherweight tournament semifinal for Bellator, and with the loss, Reis was knocked out of the tournament.
Now Freire is set to face Daniel Straus at Bellator 45 on May 21 in Louisiana for the final match of the featherweight tournament. Freire emerged from this fight with a 16-1 career record and earned his sixth victory by knockout.
Freire will get one more shot at the Bellator featherweight belt after losing to Joe Warren last year by split decision after making his way through the featherweight tournament. Before Bellator, Freire previously fought for small promotions in his home country of Brazil.
Freire is the brother of Patricky, who is 9-1 and fights in Bellator's lightweight division.
Reis, on the other hand, now holds a career record of 13-3 and with this loss being his first by knockout. Reis now has to wait for a new opponent after being knockout out of the tournament.
