The Welsh Cup was in full swing this weekend and for Abergele this meant a trip to Northop to take on the Division 1 side.
Gele lost the toss on a lovely batting wicket and were put in the field.
Darren Williams was in blistering form for Northop from the start, as he smashed a well made 64 before he was out to a wonderful diving catch by Sam Painter.
Painter was then in action again as he ran out Andy Poynton for 33.
Wickets then fell at regular intervals especially after the wicket of Harry Lewis who batted well for his 74, he looked set for a century until Rooney pulled off a wonderful catch to get rid of him.
Northop were all out for 237, this was a good come back from Gele who were looking at over 300 at one stage during the innings.
The pick of Gele's bowlers were Owen Lynam who got 4-for-66 and Amer Jamil took 3-for-39. There were also wickets for David Moulson, Wasim Ali and Karl Higgins who took wickets apiece.
Gele started brightly with Ben Garnett and Shrisa Shenoy making the early chasing before the latter was ran out for 17.
Garnett went on to record an exciting 48 with an array of classy shots off a very good Northop attack.
Garnett finally fell LBW for 48 to Lewis who continued to have a good all-round game he finished with 2-for-31.
Ali (25), Higgins (10) and Painter (16) all made double figures for Gele who fell 76 runs short of Northops target.
Northop's bowlers worked well and took wickets through out. There were braces for Jonathon Hauptfleisch, Lewis, Chris Hinton and James Roberts. Tom Hughes also took a wicket for Northop.
Gele put in a brave performance against a strong Northop side and they'll be hoping to continue to impress when they take on Corwen on Saturday.
