D.J. Smith to Green Bay Packers: 2011 NFL Draft Scouting Report

A bit undersized at 5’11", D.J. Smith was a highly productive member of the Appalachian State linebacker corps for four years.

Tallying 144 tackles and two sacks in 2010, Smith was on the Buck Buchanan Award watchlist, annually given to the FCS’ best defensive player.

As with any FCS prospect, there are concerns about the competition Smith faced during his time at App St. Other concerns about his size should leave Smith available in the sixth-seventh rounds.

Definitely a developmental prospect, but a tackling machine in college who should get a chance to make a team on special teams as a rookie.

Packers add another playmaker to an absolutely stellar draft class.
