UFC 129 Results: Georges St-Pierre vs. Jake Shields for Welterweight Belt, Rd. 4
As we dive into our fourth straight stanza of the same ol' same ol', let's talk about what GSP needs to do to convince his last few believers—he needs to press for the finish.
As Joe Rogan is accurately detailing, St-Pierre has Shields exceedingly outclassed. He's been able to do whatever he wants in the standup and he's managed to toss off all of Shields grappling/clinch advances with the slightest of ease.
He even manages to floor the American with a beautiful high kick, but he still doesn't pounce for the kill. Sooner or later, that's gonna come back to haunt him. It doesn't appear that it will be fatal tonight, but it IS costing him a bit in this battle.
He's gotten bloodied and battered by the challenger and Jakes' striking has gotten ever-so-slightly more fluid.
Georges takes a fourth straight 10-9 round, but the complaints about his eyes continue in his corner.
As the violin plays, we get a glimpse of the greatest flaw in GSP's armor—he's got the mentality of a world-class athlete, but not necessarily one of a world-class fighter.
There seems to be a difference.
