UFC 129 Results: Lyoto Machida Defeats Randy Couture
The second round opens with Randy Couture in immediate trouble as a combo from Machida forces the Natural to the ground. The Dragon backs up to create a little space and then comes straight in with an Anderson Silva-esque front kick to Couture's face.
In fact, check that—Lyoto's was even better because he gave a little feint with his left leg and the leaped into the right front kick that landed squarely. He knows Randy is out so he follows up the majestic finish to make sure, but throws little more punishment at the fallen icon.
Like I said, it was either gonna be epic or tough to watch and that was tough to watch if you're a die-hard Captain America fan.
Lyoto Machida defeats Randy Couture by KO (jumping front kick) at 1:05 of the second round.
Damn, that's yet another new leader for Knockout of the Night and now Jose Aldo REALLY has his work cut out for him to make me look like a prophet. That's one of the most incredible knockouts you'll ever see; gonna be very difficult to top.
Great class shown by both gladiators in their post-fight interviews—Machida pays respect to Randy Couture and even throws a subtle jab at friend Anderson Silva, saying Steven Seagal taught him the fight-ending kick.
Randy confirms that he's at the end and gives a nod to the victor.
There's a shot of Jon Jones in the crowd wearing a Karate Kid head band...with a vest and collared shirt. Outstanding.
