UFC 129 Results: Randy Couture vs. Lyoto Machida, Rd. 1
It's pretty insane that what is potentially Randy Couture's final UFC fight isn't even part of the co-main event. Tells you a little something about the depth of the card put together by Dana White, Joe Silva and company.
Nice work, fellas.
Couture and Machida touch gloves after getting instructions, but NOT when they come out from their corners. This is either going to be an epic performance from Randy or tough to watch and it's too early to tell at the moment.
They're still feeling each other out until the Natural comes wading in and eats a combination from the counterstriking Dragon. That gives him pause, but he gets his bearings back with a nice left hook that opens Machida's eyes.
The Dragon resumes his delicate stalking style and rifles away from outside Captain America's dirty boxing range. Couture gets in close enough to exert his clinch game, but Lyoto's throwing so furiously Randy can't free his hands to get a grasp on the Brazilian until Machida slips back away from the American.
Big knee lands from the Dragon before he survives his first close encounter with Randy's legendary close-combat tactics, throwing the UFC Hall of Famer off and away from him. Another knee to the body and some juking from Lyoto closes an easy 10-9 round for the Brazilian.
