UFC 129 Results: Ben Henderson Defeats Mark Bocek
Henderson wastes some energy playing to the crowd before the third round and then Mark Bocek comes shooting across to secure his easiest takedown of the fight. Not a good start for the American.
Granted, Smooth is effective on the ground, but you don't want to have the Canuck on top of you.
So Henderson escapes and bombs away on Bocek (as well as at least one big shot to the ground). Mark decides he's had enough of that so he scrambles away and ends up with Ben's leg trapped awkwardly. Rogan's excitedly yapping about a potential submission simply from the positioning and it does look ugly, but Smooth slips free.
Bocek is scrapping like the desperate man he is and clamors to Henderson's back while the latter is standing, then order is restored and Henderson proceeds to snipe away on the feet. Bocek is giving the American every trick he knows to try to get the submission and threatens the neck yet again as the final seconds tick away.
But, again, the lasting image is Ben Henderson's rapid-fire striking finding its home as the horn sounds.
Ben Henderson defeats Mark Bocek by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).
Mark Bocek is no chump and really is one of the most dangerous UFC lightweights on the ground so that's a fantastic performance from Smooth Henderson.
Ooh, awkward silence after Henderson screams his praise for Christ. You're not in America any more, Ben.
