On Sunday night, WWE Extreme Rules comes to us live from the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Florida.
This will be the third Extreme Rules event the WWE has held, which holds the former April/May slot of the discontinued title of Backlash.
The vacant World Heavyweight Championship will be on the line as well as The Miz's WWE Championship.
The big story, in my opinion, surrounding Extreme Rules, is John Morrison and Christian getting their shot at the big titles.
Morrison, a co-winner of 2002's WWE Tough Enough III, made it to the big leagues of WWE in 2004.
While Morrison is a multi-time WWE Tag Team Champion and Intercontinental Champion, he has never won major gold in the WWE, except for the ECW Championship.
On July 31, 2009, on an episode of SmackDown, he got his shot against Jeff Hardy for the World Heavyweight Championship but failed.
Last year, Morrison competed in the Elimination Chamber for the World Heavyweight Championship but lost that opportunity as well.
On January 3 of this year, Morrison got a shot at The Miz's WWE Championship on Raw in a Falls Count Anywhere match but would lose.
On Sunday night, he gets his second shot at the WWE Championship, in a Triple Threat Steel Cage match against John Cena, and the WWE Champion, The Miz.
Christian, on the other hand, I am almost positive he has only received one shot at major WWE gold, when he faced then champion, John Cena and Chris Jericho in a triple-threat match at 2005's Vengeance pay-per-view.
On the most recent episode of SmackDown, Christian said, "I never felt like I earned the right to touch the World Heavyweight Championship, but that has changed. This Sunday, not only will I touch the World Heavyweight Championship, it will be my destiny, to keep it."
Let's get into all six matches and my predictions for 2011 WWE Extreme Rules:
Loser Leaves WWE, No Count-Out, No Disqualification
Layla vs. Michelle McCool
I have to admit, I would be excited for this match if it weren't for all of the recent reports around the internet wrestling world. Word seems to be spreading fast, that Michelle McCool is going to lose this match and leave the WWE.
It looks like more of a leave of absence though, and she will eventually return.
Easy prediction here.
Falls Count Anywhere Match
Cody Rhodes vs. Rey Mysterio
This feud has been going on for quite some time now, and it seems like this match is the last straw. Rey Mysterio is now a member of the Raw brand, while Cody Rhodes remains on the Smackdown brand.
I think this should be an exciting match and will ultimately settle the score between the two. We saw Cody Rhodes win at Wrestlemania 27, and I think Rey gets the victory at Extreme Rules. I am pulling for Rhodes, but I don't think it is going to happen.
Winner: Rey Mysterio
Tag Team Country Whipping Match
Jim Ross & Jerry Lawler vs. Michael Cole & Jack Swagger
Don't really know what to say or think about this one. It isn't worth my time or yours. Let's just hope Cole gets the crap beat out of him, agree?
Winners: Ross & Lawler
Last Man Standing Match
Randy Orton vs. CM Punk
This is going to be an amazing match. Period.
Orton and Punks' styles and finishing moves clash together well in this last man standing contest. Will it be the GTS or the RKO that does one of these wrestlers in for good?
What I think will happen, and it is going to be difficult to pull off, Orton is going to turn the GTS into an RKO to get the win in this match. We've seen Randy slip out of many moves and perform his finisher, and I think it won't be any different on this night.
Winner: Randy Orton
World Heavyweight Championship Ladder Match
Alberto Del Rio vs. Christian
After the sudden retirement of Edge, Christian will look to follow in the footsteps of his longtime friend Edge and win the belt that his best friend cherished so much.
The excitement in this match is at a fever pitch. The winner of this match will be a first-time World Heavyweight Champion.
Will it be the newcomer villain Alberto Del Rio, or the dreams of Christian finally coming true? While the ladder gives Christian the advantage, you can't count out Del Rio and his mind for winning.
With Alberto Del Rio being drafted to Raw, it seems that Christian is going to win this match to keep the title on the SmackDown brand. However, I think this is just a smoke screen, and we will see two titles on Monday Night Raw until the WWE figures out the plan with the belts.
Winner: Alberto Del Rio
WWE Championship Triple Threat Cage Match
The Miz (c) vs. John Cena vs. John Morrison
In my opinion, it is without question, that this is The Miz's biggest challenge since becoming the WWE Champion last November.
You have the hungry John Cena that hasn't held the title since losing it at Fatal Four Way last June, and the underdog John Morrison who hasn't held the WWE Championship yet.
I will say this, someone named John will be walking out of the cage with the WWE Championship.
While I wish it was Morrison, it just isn't going to happen, not yet anyways. He is an amazing talent and if he keeps working hard, it will eventually happen. Just not on this night.
However, it is intriguing that The Rock will be hosting Monday Night Raw the night after Extreme Rules in Miami, and you can't count out the fact that he could be sticking his nose in Cena's business again.
I think there is a chance we could see him, but I don't think it will affect Cena becoming an eight-time WWE Champion.
I do expect a post-match Rock appearance to close the show out though.
Winner: John Cena
While many fans of the IWC would like to see Morrison and Christian win gold tonight, as well as myself, I don't see it happening.
Overall, I think this will be a decent pay-per-view, but I would only order it if you have money to burn, because mark outs will be few and far between.
