Statistically, UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre is a finisher.

Of his MMA-record 21 wins (against only two losses), he boasts of more finishes than decisions: 13 finishes (eight KOs and five subs) against eight decisions.

It’s premature to conclude that he has lost his finishing touch just because he settled for decision wins in his last three title defenses against Thiago Alves, Dan Hardy and Josh Koscheck respectively.

That would be akin to basketball fans dismissing the Miami Heat’s chances of advancing to the 2011 NBA playoffs, just because they lost five straight games in the regular season.

Well, guess where Lebron James and company are now.

Now let’s begin our review of St-Pierre’s 13 finished fights-from the earliest to the latest-prior to his attempt at a 14th abbreviation at the expense of his challenger Jake Shields this coming Saturday night in UFC 129 at Toronto, Canada.

(Due to copyright restrictions, I am only able to post the pictures or the highlight videos of his last six finished opponents in the UFC, and not the videos of their fights versus St-Pierre in particular. All the rest, from the 13th to the seventh, have videos of the subject fights via YouTube).

TKO (head kick and punches), 1:25 of Round 2, November 18, 2006, U.S.

St-Pierre finally won the UFC Welterweight Title from Hughes.

With this win, he also avenged his earlier loss to Hughes (submission via armbar), when he first challenged the erstwhile champion back in UFC 50 on October 22, 2004.

3) Matt Hughes (again), UFC 79: Nemesis

TKO (knees to the body), 4:45 of Round 2, April 19, 2008, Canada.

Here he avenged his TKO loss (punches) to Serra and regained the title that the latter took away from him in their first fight in UFC 69 on April 7, 2007.

1) B.J. Penn, UFC 94: St-Pierre vs. Penn 2

B.J. Penn Highlights

TKO (corner stoppage), 5:00 of Round 4 (surrendered before the start of the fifth and final round), January 31, 2009, U.S.

This is his last win by stoppage, and his fans will be delighted and critics silenced if the next finish will happen tomorrow night.
