Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett was finally selected in the 2011 NFL Draft on Friday evening when he was nabbed by the New England Patriots a late third-round pick, the 74th overall.

It was a shocking slide for the player that many experts said was the most pro-ready quarterback of any in the draft, including No. 1 selection Cam Newton of Auburn.

But rumors of drug use continued to dog Mallett throughout the combine and the draft process, which accounted for his descent down the draft boards.

Finally, the Patriots took a flyer on him and he might have ended up in the best spot of all -- he'll be mentored by New England quarterback Tom Brady, who still has a few good years left in him, to be sure.

It will be interesting to see the reaction of experts who follow the league, as well, possibly, of players to the Mallett selection. We'll keep you updated on what everybody is saying right here.
