NFL Draft Round 2: Which Player Still on the Board Is a Hidden Gem?
NFL Draft Round 2 Will Get Underway Tonight, But What Player Will Prove to be A Steal?
If you're looking for a cornerback after missing out on the top prospects in the draft and you want bang for your buck, look no further than Ras-I Dowling.
The cornerback out of Virginia is an immense talent, but it has taken a backseat to a program that hasn't been the most successful on the field and injuries that have kept him out of the lineup.
Dowling has major injury concerns, ones that weren't eased at the combine, and that's the only thing that has held him back.
If a team is sold on Dowling and his ability to stay healthy, then he's going to be a major steal for someone in the second round. The cornerback has all of the skills that you want in an athlete and coming out of Virginia, he's got the smarts and maturity to handle the NFL.
It's a major risk, but sometimes, those types of gambles can pay off big time, giving you a top talent that other teams passed on for concerns that in hindsight, look silly.
If you can get Dowling in the right strength and conditioning program, he's going to be able to bulk up and get his body to the point where he can handle the type of rigors he'll face at the pro level. There is a solid cornerback market, and the Virginia corner has to be near the top of the draft board of anyone interested in a secondary player.
There are a lot of places that he could land, specifically San Francisco and Tennessee, both teams that desperately need solutions in the secondary.
As we head into the second day of the draft, it will be very interesting to see how his injuries have impacted his draft stock. If he falls further into this draft, he's going to be an even bigger steal than we had anticipated.
