Christian Ponder to Minnesota Vikings: 2011 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Max RauschSenior Writer IIApril 28, 2011

Florida State's Christian Ponder could be the best NFL prospect in this draft class.  Ponder's career at FSU was plagued with shoulder injuries which has raised questions about his long term durability and caused his draft stock to dip.

Ponder has all the skills required of NFL quarterbacks, he is accurate (62% career completion rate), smart (earned a Masters Degree in finance) and confident.

"I really think I'm the whole package at quarterback," said Ponder. "I have great accuracy and can make all the throws. Intelligence is a huge advantage for me, being able to comprehend offenses and defenses. We ran a complex offense at Florida State and I think it will carry over well to the NFL. I'm athletic enough to move in the pocket and make plays with my feet."

Joe Webb and Tavaris Jackson have not proven their medal as NFL quarterbacks and Ponder has all the tools to come in and start as a rookie.  Some may have wanted the Vikings to take a DL or OL in the first round, but they will be able to address those needs in the later rounds.
