2011 NFL Draft Results: Grades for Atlanta Falcons Julio Jones Pick
It is the gutsiest move of the 2011 NFL Draft thus far, by far.
The Atlanta Falcons moving up to the Browns' sixth pick to get Julio Jones is one of those rumors you hear in the pre-draft hullabaloo and say, "Wow, that's a doozie of a thought. Too bad it will never happen."
Matt Ryan can only throw so many balls to Roddy White. They needed another weapon to keep Ryan's swagger moving in the right direction. So they went out and made the move to get what I believe can be the greatest individual difference maker of the 2011 NFL Draft.
Julio Jones is a playmaker and a spotlight hogger. He does so many things fundamentally brilliant at the position, from his sticky hands to his you-can't-stop-me positioning in the catch. He blocks, he goes up for balls in any circumstance, he's lived up to sizable hype.
The Falcons gave up much of their draft to make this move, saying buh-bye to their first, second and fourth round picks in 2011 and a first and fourth in 2012.
Arthur Blank made a gamble here and I think it's going to pay off with a trip to the NFC Championship Game. He gets an A+ for guts and an A for execution.
