2011 NFL Draft Results: Is A.J. Green Enough for Bengals to Keep Carson Palmer?
Either the Cincinnati Bengals aren't taking the Carson Palmer retirement threat seriously or they made the draft pick of A.J. Green Thursday to keep No. 9 under center.
Somehow, I just picture Bengals owner Mike Brown in the fetal position somewhere inside the Bengals complex going, "Nah nah nah! Not happening! Can't hear you!"
And if you follow history, you can't give Brown the benefit of the doubt for making the smart decision.
Marvin Lewis may have just lucked into a decent move though. Green has a lot of baggage with his run-ins with the NCAA, but he also has silly skills. He'll make folks forget about Chad Ochocinco very quickly if that drama plays out with an exit from Cincy as well.
I have no rooting interest here other than wanting to see the Bengals finally succeed. Maybe this is just the kind of pick that makes Palmer think Cincy actually might want to be a long-term success.
Green will have a Pro Bowl career. He'll make Palmer look better than he is by catching a lot of bad balls.
It may be too late to bring Palmer back into the fold mentally. But with this pick, the Bengals did just about everything they could to show the QB they're still committed to him and will give him weapons.
