The New England Patriots have traded the 28th pick in the NFL draft to the New Orleans Saints, and Roger Goodell just announced that the Saints have used the pick on Mark Ingram.

ESPN760 is saying the trade is for the Saints' second-round pick (56th overall) and a 2012 first-round pick.

Adam Schefter accurately speculated during the ESPN telecast that the Saints were targeting Ingram.

Ingram won the 2009 Heisman Trophy and is considered one of the best running backs of the 2011 class. Both the Patriots and Saints have displayed some need for a standout rusher, so Pats fans will likely be a bit sore about this deal if Ingram pans out for New Orleans. However, at least one Patriots scribe specifically thought Ingram was a player New England should avoid, which makes the deal a bit more interesting.
