2011 NFL Draft Results: Grading Minnesota Vikings Selection of Christian Ponder
2011 NFL Draft Results Provides Another Draft Day Shocker
2011 NFL Draft Results Minnesota Vikings Pick No. 12: Christian Ponder, QB, Florida State
If you thought that the Tennessee Titans' choice of Jake Locker at No. 8 was a shocker, well the Vikings' decision to reach for Christian Ponder at No. 12 had to be completely stunning.
While the Titans' choice of Locker was clearly premeditated, the Vikes' selection of Ponder this early in the draft was not the ideal scenario for Minnesota.
During the draft there were rumors of the Vikings looking to trade down in the draft. But apparently couldn't broker a deal which forced them to take Ponder so early.
Although Ponder is viewed as one of the most pro-ready quarterback prospects around, he wasn't on anyone radar until later in the first round and early in the second round.
The Vikings stretched when they could have grabbed themselves a true first-round talent like Nick Fairley to bolster their defensive line.
