Clemson's C.J. Spiller enjoys last year's hoopla
The 2011 NFL Draft is finally upon us.
Today marks Day 1 of the annual three-day extravaganza from Radio City Music Hall. The first draft —Cam Newton? Marcell Dareus? Blaine Gabbert?—will be announced by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell shortly after 8 p.m. this evening.
The Draft is being conducted under the cloud of labor issues, however.
The NFL's motion for a stay was denied, meaning a federal judge's ruling earlier this week stands that the league is open for business. Still, it's made the Draft almost secondary news.
"To see that draft symbol up on stage and to think that I'm going to be walking up there in about 24 hours, it was wild," Auburn defensive lineman Nick Fairley told the Associated Press.
"A lot of mixed emotions. Who knows what's going to happen?"
We'll find out starting tonight, but in the meantime keep it here and we'll have all the day-long news, notes and drama for you, followed by our analysis on the winners and losers from Day 1.
