2011 NFL Mock Draft: Mel Kiper Has the Texans Selecting Aldon Smith in Last Mock
2011 NFL Mock Draft Has Aldon Smith Taking on the Outside Linebacker Spot For the Texans
With the draft just hours away we will be soon finding out who each team will land with their first round picks. ESPN’s Mel Kiper released his last mock draft for the 2011 draft and he has the Houston Texans picking up Missouri’s Aldon Smith.
“The Texans have needs all over the defensive side of the ball and I also think they're looking to move off this pick for the right package of picks. But if they can't get a deal done and stick at No. 11, Smith represents a ton of upside for a defense that really needs to add some pass-rushing help opposite the great Mario Williams. Again, a lot of the problems in the Houston secondary started up front. I think they should find the tools Wade Phillips needs to get to opposing quarterbacks in his scheme, and Smith will remind him of Ware, a real matchup headache to be used on the edge of that 3-4.”
Smith has been compared to DeMarcus Ware on numerous occasions because of the fact that they were both stud college defensive ends that are outside linebackers in a 3-4 scheme.
While I think calling anyone the next Ware is a little unfair to both Ware and whoever is being compared to him, but if he is even slightly what Ware is this would be a steal.
