The Arizona Wildcats and Arizona State Sun Devils have gone opposite directions ever since their first showdown of the season in Tempe.

Both teams were on a hot streak, destroying their out of conference opponents on their way to Pac-10 play. But ever since ASU took two out of three against UA, the Sun Devils went on to enter the month of May ranked seventh in the nation while the Wildcats continued to drop series after series against Pac-10 foes.

I was almost like the out of conference schedule for Arizona was too weak and made them look like a good team.

Make no mistake, however; the Wildcats have a great lineup that tops the conference in multiple categories and boost two top-caliber starting pitchers. It is their bullpen that has been been the problem.

But in Tuesday's final season showdown, it was the other way around.

Arizona State scored three runs in the second inning when Johnny Field made a diving attempt and came up empty on a fly ball hit by Sun Devil catcher Xorge Carrillo to clean the bases. He was then brought home by a single from right fielder Andy Workman to make it 3-0.

Arizona would then answer back with a triple by right fielder Robert Refsnyder, a double by Johnny Field and a single by Seth Mejias-Brean to make it a one-run game.

Both teams would then trade runs and let their bullpen finish the game with the score of 4-3 Arizona State.

With the win Arizona State is currently 4-1 against Arizona and if they don't meet in the playoffs, then it is enough to make the Sun Devils the clear victor in this season's baseball rivalry.
