ESPN.com reports that a contract has been signed by the famous adoptive Shamrock brothers to square off in early 2009 (most likely April on an EliteXC card).
"We've both signed a contract to fight each other—Ken is down with it," Frank Shamrock told ESPN. "We talked about it two years ago, and we've agreed materially to fight."
Said Ken Shamrock: "Will the fight happen? Absolutely. He's got a butt-kicking coming to him. Everything I've learned, everything I have bottled up in me, is going to come out on him. I've still got love for Frank, but I'm angry at him."

The insults have gone back and forth for a while now between the Shamrock brothers. Ken has accused Frank of being "an ungrateful punk" who disrespected their father, Bob. Frank has recently fired back with steroid accusations against Ken.
It seems as though EliteXC is continuing the freak-show MMA trend. A good portion of their main events have no direct bearing whatsoever on the rankings (namely all of Kimbo Slice's fights). This fight just adds to the trend. The weight class for this fight wasn't mentioned, but there will probably be some sort of catch weight.
Whatever the case may be, it will just be yet another public execution of Ken Shamrock, hopefully the last one that we will see. Frank's skills have evolved far beyond his. The only thing that these two are on the same level with is their loud and brash attitude.
This event will attract another major audience because people want to see brothers beat up on each other. It's just interesting to see the two completely separate ways that the UFC and EliteXC are going with for their main events. Let's just see if Ken Shamrock will make it into the cage this time around.

If Ken Shamrock gets cut again and can't fight do you think Elite XC will bring in Kimbo Slice to take his place...or perhaps Seth will save him and volunteer.

I agree with Brian....but I think like you mentioned that it will be a great war between brothers. Heck, put two brothers from the streets in the cage, and you have hype. Good breaking news.

I agree, Joseph. Frank wins this fight in the first round, easily. But the fun in this one will come from the build up, as both of these guys are master promoters and hype men. It doesn't matter how good the fight is -- the hype alone will ensure that this fight is gigantic.

I tend to agree. Perhaps their is plenty of room for fights like this though? Entertainment value vs. fights that have a purpose (purpose referring back to rankings).
I agree about the hype part; they are both great self-promoters and that definitely adds to the value.

The problem is that EliteXC has very few fights that actually serve a greater purpose in the MMA world, and when they TRY serious MMA fights as the main events for the CBS shows, they bomb in the ratings. The only success EliteXC knows is the stuff that happens when they are carried on the back of Kimbo Slice, who is the ultimate 2008 freak show, and because that's the only success they know, they're going to continue to ride that freak show train until they go out of business. Which might be soon, by the way.
EliteXC means absolutely NOTHING to rankings, not in the general sense of world rankings or even their own rankings.
Ken vs. Frank isn't nearly as much of a freak show match. I mean, Ken is way over the hill and probably shouldn't be fighting anymore, but he was at least legendary and skilled once upon a time. Frank is still great and will probably murder Ken in the first round, but the point of this fight isn't the actual fight itself, it's all the stuff that happens before the fight. This is a fight sold purely on hype alone.

Although either of the women you mentioned could put ken out of his misery, I hope something happens to stop this fight. Fratricide on TV even in an organization like Elite XC is something I have not wanted to see--kind of in the realm of televising executions, which this will be.

So true. Really what is the point? Ken is too old, and like me has too few functioning brain cells and it is a forgone conclussion--Frank will win even if he has to re-break his arm to do it.

I heard Bruce Lee might fight Kareem Adul Jabbar sometime in Summer of 2010 on Elict XC. Kareem is pissed that Bruce Lee kicked his ass in retune of the dragon.
