2011 Kentucky Derby Odds could have Borel as the difference

There is a reason why Calvin Borel is one of the most coveted jockeys in the world. He rode the winning horse in three of the last four derby’s, including Mine That Bird in 2009 which was the second biggest upset in Derby history.

His work ethic is legendary and he’ll need to bring that work ethic with him for the next couple of days trying to get Twice the Appeal into the winners circle. In his favor is a good post position. Appeal will be working out of the three slot which has produced eight winners since 1900 and is one of the better positions for winners in history. However, the last time a third position horse won was 1998 and has won just four times since 1970.

Borel’s horse is going off at a 20-1 clip, but the fact that he’ll be riding near the rail will help him as he’s know to be one of the better inside position jockeys in the history as racing.

Considering just how important the jockey is means that Twice the Appeal could be in prime position to win the race.  Appeal has won three of his last four and seems to be hitting his stride at just the right time. With Borel managing the race, and given how tuned in he is to his horses, it could be a very good day for him.
