WWE Draft 2011, Divas Edition: The Dream Draft That Should've Happened

This past Monday Night saw the reemergence of the annual WWE draft, with the following day bringing about the supplemental draft. I, for one, was very excited to see the outcomes, because Lord knows the Divas Division needs a little stirring up! Now that did happen, just not with the people I'd hoped for. The Divas drafted were Alicia Fox, Kelly Kelly, Tamina, Natalya, and Beth Phoenix... Okay.

With the exception of Kelly and Tamina, these were some pretty big moves. What with Alicia and Natalya being established Raw entertainers, and Beth Phoenix being Beth Phoenix. But taking a step back and looking at the overall Diva rosters on both shows, nothing is that different. I was looking for changes that would no-doubt shake the core of each brand!

What basically happened was, Beth and Natalya switched 'Power Diva' spots on their respective brands, Alicia was sent off to be another heel Diva on SmackDown, and Kelly/Tamina were switched off in hopes of bettering their fanfare and wrestling skills. No biggie.

But this all could've been accomplished if my drafts came to fruition as well. The following are the Divas I wanted drafted, and I'll explain why as well:

To Smackdown

Alicia Fox: The one move I did want to see that actually came true, believe it or not! I feel as though Alicia Fox has untapped potential, which was definitely being showcased back during her first run on SmackDown. She seemed to be getting better with each passing week, but once she moved to Raw she hit a complete standstill. She was never bad, but not as good as she could've been either. Going back to SmackDown, I feel, can once again help Alicia to stay on a steady rise until she reaches the levels of Melina, Beth Phoenix, Gail Kim, and so on.

Gail Kim: Miss Kim is one of the people I really wanted to see on the SmackDown brand again this year. I feel like Raw hides her enormous talents, whereas SmackDown isn't afraid to highlight them. The girl is one of (if not the) best wrestler in the WWE today, male or female. She can get it done on the mic when needed, as well. And fans love her high-flying areal maneuvers! So, why not?

Melina: Oh, Melina... This girl has had more heat from the IWC on her this year than her heel days on SmackDown! Melina is definitely one of the women who's suffered from the results injuries have caused her in her career. She can't seem to catch a break when it comes to rumors, and the only way she could ever redeem herself to the IWC is by shutting them up with her talent. SmackDown would've been the perfect opportunity to showcase her wide array of skills, even outside the ring if needed!

Brie Bella: The last move I would make to SmackDown is Brie Bella. The reason being that I feel she's been glued to her sister's side for much too long now! It's time for them to take a break from each other, and what better way then being on separate brands? Plus, the Divas Championship would've made it's way over to the more credible Blue Brand.

To Raw

LayCool: I feel like moving the now-ending duo to the more entertainment-oriented show would've been absolute dynamite! Just this past Monday night the two got a fantastic crowd reaction when Layla berated Michelle after her short-lived match with one Eve Torres. So why not capitalize on that success by having the two face off live, instead of killing the excitement with pre-recorded shows? Aside from all that, I think Michelle McCool and Layla El have worked their butts off to earn spots on the more highly regarded Red Brand.

Is my draft better than WWE's?

Called Up To The Main Roster

AJ Lee: The tiny and spunky AJ Lee would be a perfect fit on the Red Brand. She has more experience than a lot of girls on the main roster, and is entertaining as hell. She's already made history in FCW by holding the Queen of FCW Crown the longest, and by being the first Diva to hold both the Divas Crown and title down at her training ground. So, why not let her make more history by competing with the big league gamers?

With all of these changes the Diva rosters would've looked like this:

Raw- AJ Lee, Eve Torres, Layla El, Michelle McCool, Maryse, Natalya Neidhart, Tamina, and Nikki Bella

SmackDown- Beth Phoenix, Gail Kim, Alicia Fox, Melina, Kelly Kelly, Rosa Mendes, Kaitlyn, and Brie Bella

In my opinion, both brands would've had really strong Diva rosters. The entertainment would've been on Raw, but Michelle, Layla, AJ, and Natalya could've kept the wrestling strong. Whereas SmackDown would have all-around performers like Beth, Melina, Alicia and Gail who could do it all while still wrestling and finally getting their moment's in the spotlight. It's a win-win-win situation for the fans, management, and the women themselves!

But alas, only one of my dream draft picks came to fruition. Storylines we've always wanted to see like Layla vs Maryse, or Alicia vs Beth are not going to happen. At least not this year.

What do you think? Is my dream draft better than the real thing?
