UFC 100 To Be Held on July 4th: All Titles On The Line

Apparently the UFC have a major ace up their sleeve for their "100th" show. The real 100th show was actually UFC 78, but who's counting anyway?

According to mmabay.co.uk, the UFC has named July 4th (Independence Day for all the American readers) the date and Las Vegas the location for the night of champions. All of the belts will be on the line in what may prove to be the most anticipated/highest grossing MMA card of all time.

Now there are a lot of things that can factor into this: Suspensions from injuries being the main thing. Will we not see any title fights in the months leading up to this event to ensure that everything goes to plan? Honestly, I don't think it would matter much anyway if there were no title fights. There are plenty of non-championship stars in each weight class to put on quality cards all year long.

Whatever the case may be, bravo UFC if you can pull this one off.

This sounds like it's destined to be jinxed with an injury. Plus, if 5 titles will be on the line - that means a lot of top guys are blocked out from fighting on cards a month before and after. Could be cool, but I have my doubts that this is realistic.

The main card would be 5 title fights, I can just imagine the stars they will have on the undercard. If this does actually happen, which is a huge longshot...I would love to see the undercard fights on PPV as well. Or the undercard on Spike, then main card on PPV.

With five 5 round fights the chances of seeing any undercard fights is slim. I expect a huge UFC 100 card, but 5 title fights is unrealistic. Maybe 3.

If BJ beats GSP in January and doesn't vacate the lightweight title, he could be in for a very interesting 4th of July.

Awesome news. I wrote here http://njfrogman.blogspot.com/2008/10/kimbo-slice-killed-elitexc-ufc-jumped.html on October 5th that, "The UFC needs to take a step back. Stop the monthly output glut. Maybe put out a Ultimate Ultimate type night where they have 4-5 fights with 7-10 champs, ex-champs, or known guys and ladies fight."

So kudos to them if this works out.

That is a big "if" to consider since so many cards have been jinxed by unexpected injuries. Holy cow! What a wild undertaking; I really cannot imagine it--completely mind boggling. There will be fireworks, guaranteed, and possibly many unexpected surprises. I can't wait!

So if BJ Penn beats GSP. I am hoping not though. Will BJ have to defend both divisions? Probably not but its something to consider.

I really hope BJ vacates the LW title if he beats GSP. Then the UFC can do their own mini tourney for that one, just like they're doing for the HW one. New champ to be crowned on July 4th.

On a side note, I'm thinking of flying out to Vegas for this card if it proves to be monumental. How much do tickets usually run for UFC's? Im from NYC where it isn't sanctioned yet, and I didn't bother to check ticket prices for the last UFC in NJ (Bisping vs. Evans) for obvious reasons.

Depends on where you're wanting to sit and also on how monumental the card is. Mid-level tickets for typical UFC shows are about $200, but mid-level tickets for Couture/Lesnar are $400. I suspect that if this show plays out like they want it to, tickets will be expensive.

It's times like this that I'm glad I can get a press pass for the show. :-)

This is a longshot, and a great shot if possible...I'd love to see tht, but as many have already elated to, it's going to be tough, with maybe injuries, multiple title holders (aka Penn possibly) and previous bouts...man good concept, bad execution

Oh wait, I didn't realize you had quote MMABay. They are notorious liars -- they literally find rumors or ideas on MMA forums and then print them as fact. The only time they actually print truthful stuff is when they steal if from other sources and then report it as fact; witness my exclusive report on Couture/Lesnar, which was first published here at Bleacher Report and then in the Houston Chronicle the next day. They stole out outright, including the number of people I talked to from both camps and everything.

If MMABay reports it, there's a 100% chance it's a lie or stolen from somewhere else. If it had been stolen from somewhere, we'd have heard about it before this, so I'm guessing they found the rumor on a forum and are reporting it as a fact.

One can only hope that they are truthful for this one then.

They aren't. I followed up on this story this morning with the UFC, and there is absolutely no plan to have a show where all the titles are on the line because it will take away too many title fight main events for other PPV shows in the months leading up to and following it. They will probably do two big fights for UFC 100 and there's a very good chance it will be a stadium show in Hawaii or London.

Frankly, I would hate to see this happen. It would be complete sensory overload. Luckily, the Lions will win the Super Bowl before the UFC puts out a megacard with five belts on the line.

I wrote an article about the possibilities of UFC 100. This was one of my suggestions, but even when I wrote it I knew the odds were against it. Not only would they have to protect champions and keep them off the line for the months leading up but also the time there after. It would basically kill the competition for at least three to six months in all divisions as far as title fights go. Im still hoping for an open weight tournament say in....Japan. Wouldnt that be something? Anyway, its all speculation until Dana White says its so I guess. Take care Joseph.

Its expected that UFC 100 will be an entirely UFC event, but what if Dana White and company were to offer a token gesture of one co-promoted intermission fight featuring the retro-Pride rematch between Fedor Emelianenko and Mirko CroCop. Surely the fight card for UFC 100 will be so stacked with awesome title matches that Fedor's entrance into the Octagon would not be overshadowing. Afterall CroCop hasn't really made a name for himself in the UFC and few mainstream American MMA fans have even heard of Fedor. Subsequently CroCop has only one fight left on his contract with the UFC before he officially plans to retire and Fedor should be free of his contract with Affliction. IMHO, the Fedor/CroCop fight during Pride was the best fight either fighter had with Pride and one of the best if not "the best" Pride fight ever. A legacy rematch like this would be icing on the cake for UFC 100 and would in no way threaten UFC's position as the world's leading MMA organization. Furthermore, the match would not need to qualify for a division in the UFC as it could be officially stated that it is to be a co-promoted intermission event. M1 Global who handles Fedor's fights would have to agree with this concession but if they didn't agree to an offer like this it would make M1-Global look bad and Dana White could then go on record as having said he did everything possible to make a Fedor fight happen. But if this fight did happen, my guess is that eventually Fedor would have to sign with the UFC.

UFC 100 looks like it could be the greatest card in UFC history. There are many rumors out there about Fedor coming in or Anderson Silva moving up or down in weight to go for another title. I'm anxious.

I'd love to hear what everyone's dream fight is! Post here: http://ufc100.wordpress.com/
If we get enough comments Joe Silva might make one of the fights come true!
