UFC 129: St-Pierre vs. Shields Preview, Predictions and Other Thoughts

UFC 129: St-Pierre vs. Shields is officially on the horizon now that it's less than a week away.

No. 1 welterweight contender Jake Shields will try to do what some say is the unthinkable on Saturday, April 30th as the Ultimate Fighting Championship makes its long-awaited debut at the Rogers Centre in Toronto. UFC Welterweight Champion Georges "Rush" St-Pierre has rarely lost a round, let alone been threatened with defeat since re-taking the 170-pound throne in 2008.

Yet many industry insiders are whispering that the American challenger will pull off an upset that will shake up the MMA landscape like few before it ever have.

And that's only half of two genuine co-main events.

The other features UFC Featherweight Champion and pound-for-pound dynamo, Jose "Junior" Aldo, defending his strap against Mark "The Machine" Hominick.

One of these days, the 24-year-old Brazilian will blow his radar cover, but for now, arguably the most dominant champion in the current UFC stables remains in the shadows of the sport's bigger names. Junior has ripped through his last three opponents—a trio of legitimate badasses at 145 pounds in Manvel "The Anvil" Gamburyan, Urijah "The California Kid" Faber and Mike Brown—and rides an 11-fight winning streak into this weekend's bout.

Additionally, the card pits Canadian gladiator against an American counterpart wherever possible along with other big names in tough scrapes. So let's get to the nitty gritty...
