UFC 129 Predictions: Lyoto Machida Over Randy Couture on the Main Card
Give Randy "The Natural" Couture credit, the 47-year-old isn't trying to coast off into the sunset.
When Captain America stands opposite Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida in the Octagon on Saturday, he will be staring at one of the most dangerous specimens a deep 205-pound division has to offer. Although the Brazilian got manhandled by Mauricio "Shogun" Rua—who, in turn, got manhandled by UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon "Bones" Jones—and dropped a split-decision to Quinton "Rampage Jackson the last time we saw him in the cage, the Dragon is no pushover.
He just happened into one of the scariest light heavyweights in the history of the sport (Shogun) while a whole new breed of LHW madness (Bones) was making his presence felt.
And many will tell you he deserved the victory rather than Rampage.
Regardless, this is still the same monstrosity who walked right through then-light heavyweight champion "Suga" Rashad Evans after blistering Thiago SIlva, Tito "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" Ortiz and Rameau "The African Assassin" Thierry Sokoudjou.
By comparison, the Natural has beaten James "Lights Out" Toney in a modern-day freak show fight at UFC 118, Mark "The Hammer" Coleman and Brandon "The Truth" Vera. Not exactly a list of vibrant contenders.
Couture steps up several levels in competition against Machida and the leap comes back to bite. Figure Randy will be able to use game plan and his elite clinch-game to survive the early rounds, but Lyoto's counterstriking finally takes its toll via third-round TKO.
