Jamal Coombs-McDaniel Caught with 5.6 Games of Marijuana
Just about three weeks ago, Jamal Coombs-McDaniel and his UConn teammates captured the school's third national championship with a 53-41 win over Butler. The sophomore forward saw just six minutes of action, registering zero points and two rebounds.
On Thursday night, however, Coombs-McDaniel found himself in handcuffs.
The word from the Associated Press is that the Massachusetts native was one of three people arrested at a campus dorm for possession of marijuana.
The police report says that Coombs-McDaniel was caught with 5.6 grams of marijuana and assorted paraphernalia:
During the course of the investigation, officers found Jamal Coombs-McDaniel and two other individuals in possession of 5.6 grams of marijuana, a marijuana grinder and a package of cigars used to smoke marijuana.
Coombs-McDaniel has since been charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on a $500 non-surety bond and is due in court on May 5.
Kyle Muncy, a spokesman for the UConn basketball program, said they are aware of Coombs-McDaniel's arrest, but he did not offer any comment.
"We are aware of the arrest of Jamal Coombs-McDaniel, but beyond that have no further comment at this time," he said.
Coombs-McDaniel played in all 41 of the Huskies' games this season. He played an average of 16.6 minutes per game, scoring 5.6 points and pulling down 2.6 rebounds per game.
The 6'7" forward was one of 11 people arrested by UConn police on Thursday night and early Friday morning. Last night marked the beginning of Spring Weekend, which the AP describes as an "annual weekend of campus parties before final exams."
