Jimmie Johnson to Drive the Number 5 Car in the Sprint All-Star Race
It has been confirmed that for one night only, five time defending Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson will pilot the No. 5 car for Hendrick Motorsports. That night will be at the All Star Race on May 21st.
Johnson will still sport his normal sponsor, Lowe's Home Improvement. The arrangement is part of a special promotion that Lowe's is running. The company offers a 5% discount on purchases of $299 or more that are put on the customer's Lowe's Home Improvement credit cards.
The move to the No. 5 car also affects Johnson's teammate Mark Martin, who regularly drives with that number. For the All Star race, Martin will take on the No. 25 which will be sponsored by Farmers Insurance.
It will be the first time that Martin has driven that number, as well as the first race with Farmers Insurance as the primary sponsor. They are scheduled for four more events later in the year. Martin's car will feature a special throwback scheme for the All-Star Race.
