The Pittsburgh Penguins have had to do without their superstar captain Sidney Crosby, who has been sidelined with post-concussion symptoms since January 5.
The team is in the midst of navigating their postseason without Crosby now as well. However, the team hopes to get their captain back before the end of the playoffs.
While everyday brings Crosby closer to a return, it is impossible to say when that will be and if it will even be before next season.
Here, we will provide you with a round-up of all the latest news about Crosby and the Penguins—from injury and practice updates to analysis of everything about the Penguins’ postseason, with or without their star.

NHL.com broke the news this morning that Sidney Crosby had a set-back in his recovery from his January concussion.
Crosby had been skating and begun practicing with the rest of the Penguins by playoff time, leading to speculation that he could return.
The Penguins and Head Coach Dan Bylsma vehemently denied these rumors. Then, Crosby unexpectedly stopped skating with the team, leading to many unanswered questions.
Those questions were answered today when Crosby admitted that his symptoms, headaches, returned and he was forced to stop all workouts, on and off the ice.
"It's frustrating and disappointing. You can't really control any of that. All I can control is what I was doing off the ice and trying to rehab. Unfortunately it didn't work out," Crosby said.
It is not good news, but now Crosby will have the whole summer to recover and hopefully make a full comeback for next season.
The Pittsburgh Penguins will face the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 7 at CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh tonight.
The Penguins look to stop the Lightning, who have outscored the Pens 12-4 the past two games. The first four games were 10-9, in the Penguins favor.
The historical statistics are not in the Penguins’ favor tonight. The Penguins have not won a playoff series at home since the Eastern Conference Final against Philadelphia in 2008. Additionally, the last two series that the Penguins have lost (the Detroit Red Wings in the 2008 SCF and last year the Montreal Canadiens) have ended in Pittsburgh.
As for Game Sevens, the Penguins' franchise has played in 12, seven at home and five on the road. On the road, they are 5-0. At home, they are 2-5. The Lightning on the other hand, have played in two Game Sevens, both at home. They won both, en route to their 2004 Stanley Cup victory.
In other news: during his morning press conference, Head Coach Dan Bylsma was asked if all the speculation about Sidney Crosby and his return has impacted the dressing room morale. Bylsma basically said that it’s outsiders that are speculating, whereas the team and the guys in the dressing room understand that there is no timetable for Crosby.
Puck drops at 8 p.m. tonight in Pittsburgh.
Viewers of the Pittsburgh Penguins-Tampa Bay Lightning series have been given glimpses of Sidney Crosby up in a box with a headset in. It turns out that the headset isn't there just so Crosby can listen, but so he can talk as well.
Per the article, Head Coach Dan Bylsma alludes to Crosby's sharp intellect and eyes on the ice, something that the Penguins are still using, even though Crosby is watching from upstairs instead of on the bench.
It seems that Crosby is honing his coaching skills for a career when he retires from hockey.
In other news, the Pittsburgh Penguins and Tampa Bay Lightning will square off in Game 6 tonight in Tampa. It is another do-or-die game for the Lightning, and could be for the Penguins as well, considering their inability to win series on their home-ice the past few years.
The Penguins look to rebound from an 8-2 beating at home on Saturday. The Lightning look to force a Game 7 and stage a series comeback. Puck drops at 7 p.m.
Pittsburgh Penguins fans received some good news today regarding injured star Evgeni Malkin, out since February with a torn ACL/MCL. The Penguins released news that Malkin has been participating in light skates for the past few days.
The good news for Pittsburgh fans stopped there though. The team got struck by the desperate Tampa Bay Lightning, who extended the series after an 8-2 win. Marc-Andre Fleury, who had been spectacular in the series to this point, was pulled in favor of backup Brent Johnson. However, the cause was already lost.
Now that the Lightning have shown signs of life, how concerned should the Penguins be? The Lightning cannot be underestimated, but the Penguins can rebound in Game Six in Tampa. The Penguins scored a couple of quick goals towards the end. It was obviously not enough to overcome their deficit, but they should focus on that slight momentum to help them mentally prepare for Game Six.
If the team can shake off this loss, they should be fine going into Game Six. After all, this is a team that flourishes on the road. When they won the Cup in 2009, they won all of their series on the road. Last season, they beat the Ottawa Senators on the road as well and lost their series to the Montreal Canadiens at home.
The statistics seem in the Penguins favor to win on Monday in Tampa.
The Pittsburgh Penguins will have the opportunity to defeat the Tampa Bay Lightning in the series tomorrow at CONSOL Energy Center. Will they be able to continue winning in the playoffs without Sidney Crosby?
The Washington Capitals are one win away from defeating the New York Rangers in their series. The other two series are tied at 2-2.
If both Philadelphia and Boston win their series, the Penguins will face the Washington Capitals in the second round. The Capitals will be very difficult to defeat without Sidney Crosby in the lineup. With the way Marc-Andre Fleury and Michal Neuvirth have been playing, that series would be battle of goaltending and whose stars can best the opponent’s goaltender. Washington would have the advantage in that series.
Boston or Philadelphia would be difficult for the Crosby-less Penguins as well. Basically, the Penguins need to avoid playing Washington, especially if they’ll still be without Crosby.
The best case scenario in round two for the Crosby-less Pens is probably against the Montreal Canadiens. Sure, Montreal came out swinging in the first two games against Boston, with excellent goaltending from Carey Price. However, it looks like the next three games will be tiring for Montreal. The Penguins will have the advantage, particularly if they beat Tampa tomorrow and have the extra rest time.
In order for this to happen, the Penguins need both Philadelphia and Boston to lose.
The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning in double overtime last night off of a James Neal goal. This puts the series at 3-1, in the Penguins favor, one win away from advancing to the next round.
They have almost made it out of the first round without Sidney Crosby, but fans are wondering how much longer the Penguins can go without their captain.
Twitter was a buzz today with rumors surfacing that Crosby was cleared for contact and would return soon. However, Head Coach Dan Bylsma laid those to rest this morning by saying that Crosby has not progressed to the next step, so his return remains uncertain.
Can the Penguins continue to win series without Crosby? That is the million dollar question. Goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury is at his best now, but each series will get progressively harder to win without Crosby, or Evgeni Malkin, in the lineup.
The Penguins may be able to win the next round without Crosby, depending on their opponent, but they probably won’t get any farther than that.
