Former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar is making it rain.

ESPN The Magazine released a list of the "Best Paid Athletes in 30 Sports", and Lesnar took top honors in the MMA category with a whopping $5.3 million in 2010.

The figure excludes endorsements, appearance fees, sponsorship money and other sources of income.

It's listed as Lesnar's official base salary or earnings from the most recently completed season or calendar year, which means the former WWE superstar is likely making much more.

The amount of money Lesnar is making is a testament to how much the sport has grown. Longtime fans remember a time when fighters fought multiple times in one night making much less.

The sport still has a ways to go. Lesnar's payday pales in comparison to various other mainstream superstars.

Kobe Bryant brought home $24.8 million in basketball, and Peyton Manning topped football with $15.8 million. Boxer Manny Pacquiao and baseball player Alex Rodriguez tied for the highest paid athletes on the list at $32 million.
