Brock Lesnar vs. Junior dos Santos: TUF 13 on Spike TV—Control Is an Illusion
Does control of matchups even matter this early in the show?
We constantly see high picks upset by lower picks and for good reason. It’s not like the coaches make a thorough assessment of the competitors before they pick teams and, even after training for a few days/weeks, that really only tells you a bare minimum about an athlete.
If you’ve competed in any sport passed a certain level, you know exactly what a practice player is and I’m sure they exist in MMA.
So, really, what are we talking about when we say a coach has “control” of the matchups? It looks a lot like they get to make their best educated guess and those have only a slightly better success rate than the 50/50 of pure chance.
Regardless, McGillivray’s so-called upset of Bentley gives Team JDS control over the next fight. Meanwhile, Chris Cope continues his push for Heel of the Season and Brock Lesnar shouldn’t take the elimination of his No. 1 quietly.
