2011 NBA Mock Draft: Trail Blazers Go for Size with Chandler Parsons at No. 21
NBA Mock Draft 2011 Picks Chandler Parsons to the Portland Trail Blazers at Pick No. 21
Chandler Parsons ended his career at Florida on a high note. He was named SEC player of the year and was the best player for a Gators team that made an Elite Eight run.
The long armed 6-10 Parsons has three-point range and hit just under 50 percent of his shots from the floor.
According to draftexpress.com writer Derek Bodner, Parsons has a few different ways to beat you with his offensive attack:
Parsons increasing ability to make spot-up jump shots increases the effectiveness of his dribble drive game, as he does an excellent job of utilizing pump fakes to open up driving lanes, showing an ability to hit a pull up jump shot or go all the way to the rim when the opportunity presents itself. When in the lane, Parson's ball handling and passing ability really shines. An excellent ball handler and decision maker for a player his size, Parsons' 4.4 assists per 40 minutes pace adjusted ranks tops amongst all small forwards in our database.
He is a sound passer and has a high basketball IQ in general.
Parsons has above-average lateral quickness for a big guy but he has to improve his physicality to be an effective defense player in the NBA.
Good Fit or Bad Fit?
The Trail Blazers are stocked up front and grabbing a guy like Parsons will certainly bolster their depth. But other than that he wouldn't provide much help to a Blazer team that should be looking for a point guard in this position assuming free agent Andre Miller leaves town.
Chances of NBA Success: 35%
It's hard to label him a bust in the making because of his dominance in the SEC, but it's hard to see much of his favorable traits translating to the NBA.
He going to get pushed around down low and will struggle to get off his shot against bigger defenders.
I would stay away from this risky pick.
