Top Five NBA Point Guards of All TIme

Joe Burgett Oct 9, 2008

Now this was a hard decision, in which I had struggled hard to figure out. As a young sports fan, I had to really go back and watch some of the all time greats. The top five was hard but these men are the ones I chose:

No. 5 Steve Nash

The former two-time NBA MVP has shown he can get anyone involved in a game and make them superstars. Dirk Nowitzki, Joe Johnson, andAmare Stoudemire are just a few names that he has propelled to stardom. He is probably the best passer of all time, but a defender couldn't focus on that, cause he would drain a three-pointer quicker than you could blink.

No. 4 Jason Kidd

Still going today, Kidd got his second Olympic Gold Medal this past summer, and has never lost an International game either. He has been to numerous all-star games, the NBA finals, and is most likely going to be up there with Nash as a close second in passing.

The King of Triple Double to some people, he can score but prefers getting rebounds, steals, and assists. He could actually be the all time Triple Double King when it is all said and done.

No. 3 Bob Cousy

It was tough to put the Celtic great here, but he had to be on the list, of course. I love the guy, some people say he was the first real point guard, the Innovator of the dribble. He could do anything with a ball it seemed.

Look at the NBA Finalsย game where he dribbled the ball until time ran out to win the NBA Title. It is one of the most remembered things in all of sports history. He could get it to the open man or blow by you for the score.

No. 2 Magic Johnson

Some say Magic was not a point guard because he played every single position at least once, and was the only man to play all positions in one game. The 6'9" superstar could pass but was mainly known for his scoring ability.

Everyone knows what he went through with HIV, but nothing is more memorable than the All Star game he played against Michael Jordan all night. I will remember that forever.ย He not only lead his team to rings, but did pretty well in the Olympics too, as part of the original "Dream Team."

No. 1 John Stockton

Some say Stockton doesn't deserve the top spot, but he resembled the point guard to me. Not only did heย score and pass, but he took over games.

Heย could single handedly take a team back from a sure defeat and turn it into a victory. The Jazz only needed Stockton to win,ย but surrounded him with talent, which he made great. Not only was he a great player, but he made the people who surroundered him better.

Some that just missed the cut:

Oscar Robertson, Walt Frazier, Allen Iverson, and Gary Payton.
