Caroline Kilel Wins the Women's Boston Marathon In His First Time Running the Race
Caroline Kilel can officially say she has a 100 percent success rate at the most famous marathon in America.
Kilel of Kenya outlasted Desiree Davila of the United States to win the women's race on Monday with an official time of 2 hours 22 minutes 36 seconds.
It was her first time ever running the historic race and afterward Kilel told boston.com that she is already thinking about next year:
I'm happy because I won a close one. I love Boston. I would love to run here many times if they invite me. I feel very happy.
I'm pretty sure they will be inviting you back Caroline.
Davila, the Arizona State product, was the fan favorite down the stretch. She held the lead for a large stretch of the race before falling just short. Chants of USA, USA could be heard as the crowd followed Davila's progress throughout the race.
After the race Davila spoke to boston.com about how she just ran out of gas:
I thought maybe there was a little more left in my legs, but I just couldn't pull it off in the last couple seconds of the race. My legs were just shot. That was all I had and [Kilel] was just better today.
It was an exciting race that really did come down to the final stretch. But it was the extra bit of endurance that pushed Kilel to the finish line.
Sharon Cherop finished third and American Kara Goucher finished fifth.
It was an exciting race day and another successful Boston Marathon on the women's side.
