NFL Draft 2011: Players Who May Slide to Baltimore Ravens: Aldon Smith
Raw Prospect Aldon Smith Could Slip to Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens could potentially have a luxury pick at 26th overall. Depending on whether or not the teams preceding them want to fill needs or draft on talent, a few marquee players could fall to them.
One of these possibilities is Missouri defensive end Aldon Smith. The pass rusher out of Missouri has become synonymous this year with the terms "raw", "upside", and a player who should have stayed in school another year, since he could have been a top five pick in 2012.
Matt Vensel of the Baltimore Sun noted his upside in saying, "Smith, who gets compared to Cowboys sack specialist DeMarcus Ware, is a workout warrior with excellent measurables and athleticism."
There are a lot of teams in the middle of the first round who would like pass rushers who are ready to go now. As a result, there is a small change Aldon Smith slips in the ranks. At the same time though, the Houston Texans and Detroit Lions have been tossed around as possibilities.
If Smith doesn't go in the first 16 picks or so, then he could very well freefall to the Ravens, but I still think they like what they see out of Cameron Heyward, so this is highly unlikely to be their selection even if he's available.
