NFL Draft 2011: Issues Won't Prevent Bengals from Considering Ryan Mallett
Whether Rumors are True or False, Cincinnati Bengals Will Think About Drafting Mallett
It is never a dull day, for better or worse, when rumors about Ryan Mallett hit newsstands. Yesterday, the National Football Post reported that Ryan Mallett missed his meeting with the Carolina Panthers because he was out on the town, partying.
Mallett's agents refuted the allegations, as in reality he missed the meeting because he was too ill due to "flu-like symptoms", though he did try to get through the meetings. In fact, it was the Panthers the canceled the meetings that day due to how Mallett felt, according to the Sporting News.
It's a shame that people have launched into smear campaign territory against Mallett, whose stock continues to be quite erratic due to all the rumors surrounding him.
One thing that we do know is that the Bengals are not going to change their opinion of him. If he is off their board, then it's due to him not being a good fit in the Bengals' system. If he is still on their board, then these allegations are not going to knock him off.
This may not be the same for other teams, though it should be. Does this mean the Bengals will select Mallett in the draft? Probably not, simply because Dalton is the frontrunner in their minds. You cannot count him out though.
