2011 NBA Playoffs: Is Kobe Bryant Shooting Too Much?
Kobe Bryant took 26 shots in game one of the Laker's first round series against the New Orleans Hornets.
He made half of them.
Gasol shot 2 for 9 from the floor and totaled just 8 points as the Lakers fell in their 2011 playoff opener. Chris Paul had a double double with 33 points and 14 assists.
Kobe wanted this win. Maybe a little too much.
Although Kobe shot 50% from the field, it may have helped the team to get Gasol and Odom going. Late in the fourth quarter the Lakers became too one dimensional with Kobe handling the ball and trying to attack the rim—and it almost worked.
The Hornets locked in on Kobe and it was too late. Kobe needs to make more of an effort to get his team mates involved early so he can take over late. Going to Kobe too early in the game can make the Lakers offense stale and predictable.
They can't win a third straight title if it's all Kobe all the time.
Some of that falls on Gasol and Odom. They have to demand the ball in position to score and make it happen. Hopefully Phil will focus more of the offense to the post and let Kobe go to work in the fourth quarter.
