NFL Free Agency 2011: San Diego Chargers Losing Malcom Floyd?
Although he’s not San Diego’s first or second option, Malcom Floyd is a solid all-around WR. He’s come on strong the last three season. Racking up almost 2,000 yards and 11 touchdowns, while only starting in 20 games.
With a Vincent Jackson, Antonio Gates, and Philip Rivers filling that stat sheets in San Diego, Floyd is often an afterthought. In the right system, though, he could put up big numbers. He’s tall, long, and has solid hands. He’s never been a real red-zone target for Rivers, but he didn’t have to be. Antonio Gates is the best red-zone tight end in the NFL.
San Diego doesn’t want to let Floyd go, but they have to be thinking about an extension for Vincent Jackson, too. They might not want to spend a lot of cash, especially with some talented WRs on the bench, including Legedu Naanee.
Washington, Jacksonville should be interested, too, as they’re both woefully thin on solid receivers. But I think Kansas City is the perfect fit for Floyd. He would fit in perfectly across from Dwayne Bowe, and Cassel would have two big targets he couldn’t miss.
Prediction: Malcom Floyd signs with the Kansas City Chiefs
